Luniara Joins the ArtFight Frenzy!
Luniara is gearing up for her first-ever participation in ArtFight.net, the annual July art event that unites artists of all skill levels in a friendly creative battle. On the site, artists split into two teams and “attack” each other by drawing original characters, fostering a vibrant exchange of artwork without pressure or expectations.

ABOUT LUNIARA
Luniara (Mel) is a self-taught digital and traditional artist whose distinct style shines across artistic platforms such as Instagram and Patreon. Her artwork blends vibrant color palettes, expressive lines, and intricate textures, often infused with emotion and storytelling. She has a gift for capturing character personality and mood, bringing fantasy worlds and original characters vividly to life. This combination of bold aesthetics and heartfelt narratives sets her apart in the digital art world. She enjoys world-building, roleplay, character design, and creating comics, drawing much of her inspiration from the Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars universes, as well as various MMORPGs.She has been drawing for as long as she can remember. As a child, she would sketch comics by nightlight, hide beside her bed with a pencil in hand, or draw in math class until teachers confiscated her supplies. Growing up, her Father, an artist himself, shared his knowledge and nurtured her passion, inspiring her to keep creating. As a teenager, Luniara dove into digital art, spending countless hours on Oekaki boards and OpenCanvas sessions. Art became an inseparable part of her life and an essential outlet for her emotions, especially after her family was touched by tragedy on 9/11. Channeling grief into creative expression, she developed a deeply personal style, which lives on in her powerful annual pieces honoring her sister and other victims of 9/11. She also uses her artwork to raise awareness for the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, where her work is featured on their official website.Beyond personal storytelling, Luniara uses her platform for good, creating artwork that raises awareness and funds for causes close to her heart, such as Cystic Fibrosis research and charities like Child’s Play, which brings entertainment and joy to children facing life-threatening illnesses. Her primary tools for creating artwork include a Apple 12.9" iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in Procreate or Clip Studio Paint, as well as a Wacom Cintiq display tablet and Adobe Photoshop for more complex projects. She finds tremendous joy in creating art inspired by roleplay experiences and loves bringing original characters to life. Deeply driven by the excitement and gratitude of her close friends and fans, Luniara thrives on the connections art builds, finding endless inspiration in the shared joy of creativity. When not working on art, Luniara is often found gaming or watching reruns of Supernatural, spending time with her family, her three cats and dog. Approachable and passionate, Luniara readily shares advice and insights about her artistic techniques, continuing to inspire others with both her art and her story.

The following illustrations range from my newest works to much older pieces, showcasing my artistic journey and reminding us all that every artist begins somewhere.
9/11 Pieces
These illustrations are part of an ongoing annual project, each year returning to the same core theme yet transforming with whatever emotions fill my heart in that moment. I begin sketching around mid-year, but the pieces often shift and evolve as the anniversary of 9/11 draws near. I always finish them in the days, or sometimes hours, surrounding that date, when memory feels sharpest and grief feels closest. This project was born in my high school art class, when my teacher asked us to create a psychological self-portrait. At the time, I was a teenager drowning in the turmoil of an unspeakable loss. I poured my pain into that first piece, and from there, this series became the thread stitching together my journey through grief. These works have followed me through the years: through the ache of feeling cheated out of a life with my sister; through the raw emotion of standing for the first time at the memorial in New York; through the quiet shift that came with becoming a mother and finding small moments of peace.Though time has passed, creating these pieces remains my ritual of remembrance, a way to honor those we lost, to hold space for sorrow, and to keep alive the love and memories that grief can never erase.
